The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts asked me to make a guest-book zine. Visitors answered the prompt “Really Free.” Like me, Nellie Mae Rowe was self-taught, so I was honored to make a lasting piece for the museum. Working with visitors felt empowering — their pages became part of a larger whole. As the drawings grew and I pieced them together, themes emerged and my collaging turned them into something beautiful.
